Authentic Path Psychotherapy has been a dream since before 2017, although it had no name at the time. This name encapsulates my vision of what kind of mental health provider I want to be inclusive of my approach to providing psychotherapy, the principles of recovery, my values (professional and personal) and the ultimate goal for treatment.

The combination of a psychodynamic approach with the principles of recovery and a passion for working with those affected by significant childhood trauma creates a space that aligns with my genuine self.

Recovery is a journey. Some would say therapy is a journey to the self. Those who have experienced trauma in their lifetime, especially at a young age, lose touch with their genuine self as a result of defenses created necessary to survive. It can be a long road back to uncovering and reclaiming the genuine self.

Carl Roger’s was quoted as saying “Significant positive personality change does not occur except in a relationship.” Many have tried to recover on their own – and likely found obstacles along the way despite valiant effort, awareness, even insight. Recovery is a challenging path that requires guidance, support and encouragement. It is necessary and worthwhile. I believe there are many gifts along the way. The destination will exceed your present expectations. It is that are clouded by a perception steeped in the grayness of traumatic experience.
